In 2017, ATN released an audio summit containing interviews of leading educators nationwide. Lorraine Schneider, ATN’s Director of Special Initiatives, interviewed Dr. Melissa Sadin. Melissa is a published author, educational consultant, and advocate for trauma informed schools. She has a doctoral degree in Developmental Trauma in Schools. She is a lifelong educator and an adoptive parent.
In part two of this series, Dr. Sadin emphasizes that we need to focus less on the behavior and, instead, investigate the need behind the behavior. Dr Ross Green calls this a huge “Seismic Shift” that our nation’s school systems need to make. As Melissa says, “Principals cannot discipline their way to achievement.” There is a better way!
