In 2017, ATN released an audio summit containing interviews of leading educators nationwide. Lorraine Schneider, ATN’s Director of Special Initiatives, interviewed Dr. Melissa Sadin. Melissa is a published author, educational consultant, and advocate for trauma informed schools. She has a doctoral degree in Developmental Trauma in Schools. She is a lifelong educator and an adoptive parent.
In part one of this series, Dr. Sadin talks about what brought her into the work of educating schools on trauma. She explains how her experience an educator, paired with the adoption of her son from Bulgaria, led her on this path. She realized that she needed to shift her thinking and recognized that schools were pivotal. As Melissa says, “Teachers are the gatekeepers of our nation’s children.”
