Part 2: Self Care is Important, an interview with Dr. Mona Johnson
Teacher with Students

In 2017, ATN released an audio summit containing interviews of leading educators nationwide.  Melissa Sadin interviewed Dr. Mona Johnson.  Dr. Johnson is the Director of Student Support at the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction in Washington state. Dr. Johnson co-authored the book, The Heart of Learning and Teaching.  This book has become a backbone of much of the trauma-informed school’s curriculum and policy being developed across the country today.

In part two of this series, Dr. Johnson invites teachers to “go deeper” into their own self-care, Mona shares her insight about what teachers need and why it is so important to keep your tank full.  She stressed that all teachers need to be aware of themselves.
